The photographs throughout the spring 2010 issue of Shafer Court Connections highlighted VCU’s commitment to sustainability. A four-page photo essay opened with a dramatic image of Cary Street Gym’s 18,000-square-foot main room (screen 1). This photo captured the modern amenities of the LEED-certified fitness facility against the original red brick exterior wall of the late-19th century building. Additional images in the essay showed the innovative adaptive reuse of the historic building on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus (screens 2 through 4) as well as the newly built Jonah L. Larrick Student Center on the MCV Campus (screen 5), which also earned LEED certification for sustainability.
Other images in the magazine focused on the many faces of the university’s green initiative including Gordon McDougall, assistant vice president of university alumni relations, shot with his yellow lab, Meghan, at the VCU Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences (screen 6) and a member of Green Unity for VCU at the student kickoff of VCU’s Year of the Environment (screen 7).
