The VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia asked us to develop a modern brand for its 30-year-old continuing education division, the Nurse Anesthesiology Faculty Associates. The organization wanted to communicate its top-notch educational programming visually to stand out in the competitive CE market and increase attendance at its land- and sea-based seminars. We created a new logo centered around three key themes — quality, value and service — that set the tone for the organization and provided a new direction for NAFA’s various print materials, as well as its website (which we also developed).
A template was developed for collateral 5" x 8" direct-mail postcards to promote NAFA’s seminars. Large 4-color photos were used on the front of the cards to play up the destination, while copy on the back of the card captured the unique experiences offered by the seminar’s location. NAFA introduced its new logo and website in October 2009, and the organization’s dedicated alumni responded positively to the updated brand. A calendar brochure outlining all of NAFA’s 2010 events mailed in December followed by the first postcard, promoting a summit at Snowshoe Mountain. Registration numbers for the summit soared — doubling from the previous year’s attendance — providing evidence of the campaign’s success.
