Overview
Inspired by VCU’s commitment to going green, the spring 2010 issue of Shafer Court Connections highlighted the many and varied facets of sustainability at the university, including a special report on the newly renovated, LEED-certified Cary Street Gym. Inside, a four-page photo essay captured the adaptive reuse of the fitness facility, which incorporates the exterior walls of the former Richmond City Auditorium, a 19th century building.
Additional content and custom photography throughout the 40-page alumni magazine further illustrated green initiatives on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus, including eco-friendly student transportation and the VCU Year of the Environment, a yearlong effort emphasizing the contributions and leadership that universities can bring to improve Virginia’s sustainable practices.
