The VCU Office of Undergraduate Admissions requested a Viewbook to appeal to prospective students. The 2010 edition featured a mix of color photography and illustration creating an energetic and youthful look. The Viewbook included profiles of current students written in their own voices and photographed in natural environments. The profiles were interwoven with informational copy about the university and accompanied by illustrations that offered the reader a more interactive experience while perusing the book.
A saturated color palette including a range of neutrals, combined with ample white space, allowed a periodic break for the reader’s eye while complementing new color photography of the students, the university and its surroundings. To reduce cost, the team designed a 32-page book (down from 44 pages the previous year). The cover was printed 4 color plus VCU yellow offset, and to further reduce cost the text was printed on a Web press. The Viewbook was printed on coated Sappi Opus stock.
