We worked with Respiratory Care Services to redesign their website (screen 1) with the primary emphasis on recruiting new employees. After collaborating with the client to identify the benefits of employment, we developed content and photography (screen 2) reflective of the department’s work environment, research and continuing education, as well as promoting open positions (screen 3). We used a VCU calendar feed (screen 4) and message from the director blog feed (screen 5) to raise awareness of upcoming events and information for employees.
We also developed a password-protected staff intranet (screen 6) as a resource for current employees to view upcoming certification renewal deadlines, department policy manuals and other instructions. The client emphasized the vacation benefits available to employees, but stressed the need to submit requests in advance. To help employees plan their vacation and streamline the request process, we created a vacation calendar that allows users to see who has already requested specific days and which days are available for time off.
Lastly, we created an administrative interface for designated staff to easily manage users, update the vacation calendar and compliance deadlines, and add documents. We wrote a corresponding user manual to assist current and future administrators utilize the tools available in the intranet.
