Overview

We worked with a team from the VCU Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Workplace Supports and Job Retention to design, write/edit and develop the Going to College Web site (screen 1) and its logo. The project was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Going to College offers advice to high school students and their parents, as well as guidance counselors, about living college life with a disability. It’s designed for high school students and provides flash video clips with transcripts (screen 2), audio files with transcripts (screen 3), activities, worksheets and additional resources to help them in the process of planning for college.

The team chose fun, bright colors to engage the students. Each color-coded module includes several activities (screen 4) and worksheets that will help students explore more about themselves, learn what to expect from college and equip them with important considerations and tasks to complete when planning for college. The site also includes a portfolio (screen 5) of worksheets and documents for students to complete and keep for later reference.
